A Calling to ServeÂ
Raised in Edgecombe County, Carol Allen White learned early the value of hard work, faith, and serving others. After graduating from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, she began her career in the Edgecombe County Register of Deeds Office in 1976 at just nineteen years old.

What started as a first job quickly became a lifelong calling.

Over the years, Carol gained firsthand knowledge of the court system while serving the people of Edgecombe County with professionalism, compassion, and integrity. Every interaction reinforced her belief that public service is not simply about holding an office, it's about serving people during some of the most important moments of their lives.
Making History
A Legacy of Leadership
In 1990, Carol Allen White made history as the first woman and first African American elected Clerk of Superior Court in Edgecombe County.

Although she was defeated in the 1994 election, Carol never lost her passion for serving her community. Four years later, the voters of Edgecombe County once again placed their trust in her leadership, electing her back to office in 1998.
Since then, she has continued to earn the confidence of the people through professionalism, accessibility, and faithful public service.
Today, Carol proudly serves her eighth elected term as Clerk of Superior Court, continuing a legacy built on trust, experience, and accountability.

She is the founder of the It Starts With U Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals successfully transition back into their communities after incarceration by providing support, education, resources, and opportunities for a fresh start.

Carol also serves as Pastor and Founder of Greater Is Coming Ministries, where faith, encouragement, and servant leadership continue to impact lives throughout the community.

Whether mentoring future leaders, serving through ministry, or supporting families across Edgecombe County, Carol believes leadership begins by putting people first.

The Heart Behind the Service
Behind every public servant is a family that has supported the journey.

Carol and her husband, Robert, have shared more than fifty years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service. Together, they are blessed with two children, a daughter-in-law, and the cherished memory of their late son-in-law, along with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who continue to inspire her commitment to creating a stronger future for generations to come.

A lifelong member and Associate Minister of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Tarboro, Carol’s faith has been the foundation of her life and leadership. She believes these same values that guide her family; integrity, compassion, humility, and service, should also guide those entrusted with public office.

Experience That Continues to Grow
While Carol’s experience spans decades, her focus remains firmly on the future. As Edgecombe County grows and residents’ needs evolve, she remains committed to improving accessibility, embracing appropriate technology, and ensuring the Clerk’s Office delivers efficient and responsive service. She helped guide the Edgecombe County Clerk’s Office through its transition to North Carolina’s eCourts system, supporting staff and the public as the office adapted to electronic filing, online court records, and updated case-management tools.
